Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs)

Each county is required to have an AAA to ensure that communities have access to local aging programs that provide information and services on a range of assistance for older adults and those who care for them. Area Agencies on Aging were established by the federal Older Americans Act in 1965. They receive federal, state, and local funds to contract with local organizations to provide service to seniors. There are 33 Area Agencies on Aging designated by the California Department of Aging as the local Planning Services Agencies.

All AAAs provide the following programs:

Marin County Area Agency on Aging

Marin County Aging and Adult Services (AAS) acts as the Area Agency on Aging (AAA) for Marin County, under a framework and funding put forth in the Older Americans and Older Californians Acts. As such, the Area Agency on Aging is responsible to plan, develop, and coordinate services for older adults in Marin County. AAA serves adults aged 60 and over, and family caregivers to someone aged 60 and over living in Marin County. To view the Area Plan, click here.

The Board of Supervisors created the Marin County Commission on Aging to advise the Area Agency on Aging on the needs of older adults. It meets on the 2nd Thursday of most months. Visit the Commission on Aging page for more information and meeting agenda/date/locations.
